Consulate, Burger King, Prayer

This week was pretty normal. We had a few people come in for residency and even had to go to the US consulate. Since we are closing pisos (apartments) me and my comp had to go with the Hospitalet Elders to clean out the Cornella Piso. There was so much stuff and we had to fill up our twelve passenger van twice. This week we also had another zone conference with the mission. And on Saturday we had a piso inspection.

Also, every week since there are six of us here in the office we take turns each day making lunch so you only have to do it once a week. Depending what I make this typically costs about twenty to thirty dollars. So this week I decided to let Burger King do the work and I was able to buy 24 cheeseburgers for around $25. Everyone got four cheeseburgers each. The dollar menu coming in clutch.

This week we were able to teach Yessica through video call. During the lesson the man she takes care of asked who she was talking to. She told him and she went on to give a summary of what we had just taught! This week we were also able to teach the family of Evelin about prayer and at the end the 9 year old daughter Elena prayed. It was great to feel the Spirit that was brought to their house by the means of a simple act of faith.

Movie Night

FC Barcelona
Hola! This week was great. We were able to teach a new amiga named Evelin and her "Uncle Henry" and talk a lot about the Bible. We were also able to set a baptismal date with our amiga Yesica for the 20 of February. Also this week I was able to do an intercambio with one of my old companions Elder Rappleyea. It was a lot of fun. We all went to the restaurant where Mark, a member in our ward works and ate some great Chinese food even though he's from the Philippines. On Friday we had to take an hermana to the airport at 3:00 in the morning and later in the day we had a few residency citas.

As for out of the ordinary events, my companion tagged a guy on a moped at a light. Luckily no one one was injured and we only got a scratch on our car. Then later on in the day someone else in the office backed into a post. I guess I will now be the one doing all of the driving. We also had movie night.  We projected it from our balcony across to the building next door. (see attached picture) Now if we could figure out how to have a good sound system. We could have the entire complex watching with us. If anything else, hopefully people saw Jesus Christ as they were walking by or looking out their window and started putting him first in their lives.

Tranquilo

This week was a lot more tranquilo. Thursday we made an early run to the airport to drop off Elder DeGroot. Wednesday was Dia de los Reyes aqui. It is a holiday that represents the day the Three Wise Men gave gifts to Jesus Christ. This year there were no big parades but Hermana Warnock bought a Roscon or typical cake that is eaten here. Also this week we had a mission conference through Zoom and found out who the new mission president coming in July will be. It is Elder Villar of the Seventy. He is from Chile.

Plaza Real (Royal Plaza)
This week we were able to meet a guy our age from Poland named Philip. He had previously lived in Utah and knew quite a bit about the church. Hopefully we will be able to meet with him this coming week. We were also able to teach Gloria and Mari together this week and the family de Rensol y Roxanna. Also the northern half of Spain got a lot of snow this week, but somehow Barcelona was left out. I saw a lot of pictures of other missionaries enjoying the snow. If you haven't made a new year's resolution yet. Writing a missionary with the last name Neuberger is always a good choice.

Gloria, Grapes, & Feliz Año Nuevo

A lot has happened since the last time I wrote an email, and it is all kind of a blur. Last week so much was going on with transfers that we didn't have pday. On Dec. 18 we took a group of missionaries to the airport at 3 in the morning including Elder Johns, so they could be home for Christmas even though transfers weren't really until the week after Christmas. Elder Gomez who is from Madrid also went home but on Christmas day. He didn't tell his family he was coming home a few days early and was going to surprise them. I would have liked to have seen that happy reunion. We were able to eat a lot of great food with our district for Christmas that Hermana Warnock prepared. Also on Christmas eve we were able to visit with President and Sister Galli in their house and we ate different traditional foods from Spain.

Happy New Year Barcelona
Last week was probably one of the craziest on my mission. I started buying travel for missionaries because we were having transfers and the card we use stopped working. Too much to explain here other than it created a lot of craziness, but we made it through and everyone got where they needed to go. We also had a missionary who was planning on leaving at 6am on Tuesday morning. On Monday we found an email in our spam mail saying that he had to get a PCR(covid) test. So he ended up going home a day later instead.

In the middle of all this we had the baptism of our amiga Gloria. She was so happy and ready to be baptized. She loves the Gospel and all the joy it brings to her life. She loves to study everything we teach and always gives us her notes from during the week. Her baptism was also the day she turned 88 years old.

We had one of the mission cars get broken into luckily nothing was stolen. Also my companion was sick this week but didn't have covid. We were also able to meet with a few new people this past week including a guy around our age named Patricio and an abuela que se llama Luz.

12 grapes

I hope everyone has a happy new year. In Spain they eat twelve grapes at midnight to start the new year. It is supposed to bring good luck. They even sell the grapes in packages of twelve. Or if you missed out on eating your twelve grapes you can follow this advice in the scriptures: "I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them." 1 Nefi 3:7
